This winter the Strathmore Municipal Library is presenting a series of FREE technology courses for beginners! Whether you want to download library books to your new e-reader, learn how to create documents with a word processor, or look up repair information for your snowmobile, we have a program for you.
Registration for all classes will begin Feb 1. You may register by calling Jessie at the library or by dropping in. Class sizes are limited, so sign up early!

Using e-Readers, e-Books, and Overdrive:
Did you get an e-reader,m tablet, or smartphone for Christmas? Are you thinking of buying one but just don't know what to get? Join us for this information session all about e-readers, e-books, and your library. Feel free to bring your laptops and devices so you can follow along with the tutorial! Basic computer skills are required for this session; an active library card is recommended.
Classes run on ... Monday, February 13 (6:30 - 8:00pm), Wednesday, February 15 (2:00 - 3:00pm), Monday, March 5 (1:00-2:30pm), and Saturday, March 17 (3:30 - 5:00pm).
E-Resources - Do-it-Yourself:
Your library offers access to a number of Do-it-Yourself databases! These include the Auto Repair Reference Centre, Small Engine Repair Reference Centre, Hobbies and Crafts Reference Centre, and the Home Improvement Reference Centre. Learn about how to use each of these databases using effective searching techniques, how to save, print, or e-mail selected articles, and much more! Basic computer skills and an active library card are required for this course.

E-Resources - Mango Language Learning:
Are you planning an overseas vacation? Applying for a coaching job with the Montreal Canadiens? Or just looking to expand your horizons? Mango Language Learning offers courses in over 30 foreign languages as well as courses in English for foreign language speakers. This course will help you to get started with Mango Language Learning! Basic computer skills and an active library card are required for this course.

E-Resources - An Overview:
With downloadable material available 24/7, your library is always open! This course offers an overview of the e-resources offered by Strathmore Library and the Marigold Library System. E-resources include informaiton on health and wellness, geneology and history, articles in newspaper and magazines, education and career information, and much, much more! We will cover the types of information available, some effective searching techniques, and how to print, save and e-mail selected documents. Basic computer skills and an active library card are required for this course.

Career Cruising and other Career Resources:
Calling all job-seekers! Attend this session to get started using the library's Career Cruising online career guidance and planning system. The database features career assessment tools, detailed occupational profiles for over 500 careers, and comprehensive post-secondary education information for Canada and the United States. In addition to multimedia career interviews, users can create resumes and explore Canadian apprenticeship programs, job descriptions, working conditions, related jobs and sample career paths. This course will also touch on government and other useful career resources. Basic computer skills and an active library card are required for this course.

Microsoft Word: Getting Started:
Learn how to create, save, edit, and format documents using Microsoft Word. This course will cover the basics of desktop publishing so that you can wrtie your annual Christmas letter, create a resume, or get working on your novel! Basic computer skills (using the mouse and a keyboard) are required for this course.

Facebook for Beginners:
Connect with family and friends using the world’s most popular social network! Learn how to set up your own Facebook account, create content for your profile, and connect with the people you know. We will also cover Facebook’s privacy settings so that you can keep yourself and your computer protected. Basic computer skills and an e-mail address are required for this course.
Classes run on ... Monday, March 12 (1:00 - 2:00pm), and Wednesday, March 21 (4:00 - 5:00pm).
Computer One-on-One:
If the topic you would like to learn about is not covered in a regular course, or if you have a specific computing issue that you need help with, you can book a one-on-one session with our C@P Coordinator. During this half-hour session YOU dictate the curriculum and learn entirely at your own pace! No previous computer experience required.
