Laptop Lending Program

The library owns one touch-screen laptop equipped with Windows 8, Microsoft Office software and Wi-fi capability which can be borrowed by Library patrons for in-library use.  All laptop users are expected to abide by the Strathmore Municipal Library’s Internet Use Policy (Section 4.2.6.).
The user agrees to assume any and all legal liability for the cost of repair or replacement in the event of loss due to theft, damage, negligence or misuse of laptop while in their possession.  The library will not assume responsibility for lost files due to viruses, hardware failure and network interruptions.  Any file(s) copied or downloaded will automatically be removed and cannot be recovered after the laptop is returned.
The laptop may be borrowed by adult library cardholders in good standing (i.e. no outstanding fines or liabilities over $20).  Borrowers will be asked to verify their identity by presenting their library card/barcode.
The laptop is available for loan on a first-come, first-served basis and may not be reserved in advance.  The loan period for the laptop is two hours.  If no one is waiting for the laptop, it may be renewed, but it may be recalled during this renewal period if demand warrants.   Users must approach the circulation desk in person to request a renewal.
Regardless of the time the laptop is signed out, it is due 15 minutes before closing to allow for examination and check-in by library staff.
Sign-out procedure
The laptop is to be signed out by staff at the circulation desk and MUST be signed out with a library card/barcode.
User must return the laptop in the same working order and condition as when it was received.  The laptop must be returned in person to staff at the circulation desk.  Users will be required to wait momentarily so staff can verify that all laptop accessories have been returned.
Technical Support
Users should have a basic familiarity and comfort level with the hardware and software they will be using.  There is very limited technical support at the circulation desk and assistance is dependent on the availability of the staff.
Replacement and Damage Fines
The user assumes full financial responsibility for the laptop when it is in his/her possession.  The replacement charge for the laptop is $650, in addition to a processing charge of $20.  Charges for missing laptop accessories also apply - $20 for carrying case and $65 for AC-adapter.  A suspension of further borrowing privileges will also apply.  A repair fee will be levied for damaged laptops.  Any laptop malfunction should be reported immediately to Library staff.
