Library Mask Use Policy

Nov. 18, 2020 Geoff Ball. Chair, The Town of Strathmore Library Board

On November 17, the Strathmore Library Board enacted a mask use policy for staff and patrons in the library, effective immediately. This policy was deemed necessary to continue to promote the health and safety of library staff, volunteers, and patrons. Wearing a mask has been proven to reduce the transmission of COVID-19 and although it can be an inconvenience, we appreciate your anticipated cooperation to help prevent the spread.

While in the library, masks are now mandatory for all staff and patrons. Exceptions are permitted for those who are medically exempted from wearing one or who are under the age of 4. We encourage social distancing at all times, but particularly by those who are unable to wear a mask. Face shields may be used by staff as an additional protection, at the discretion of each staff member.

Proof is not required if someone has an exception and we ask all staff and patrons to assume that someone is acting in good faith if they are not wearing a mask. If you are uncomfortable entering the library while wearing a mask, we invite you to call the library at (403) 934-5440 and a staff member will be happy to check books out for you and bring them to you in your vehicle or at the sidewalk in front of the building. A staff member can also provide a mask at the front door in the event you’ve forgotten to bring one with you.

For their own health and safety, staff and volunteers may remain behind the plexiglass of the circulation desk while assisting patrons who are not wearing a mask. Although this may prevent accompanied assistance in the stacks or on a computer, items can still be checked in and out and assistance can be offered at the desk.
We recognize the increasing trend of mask use policies that have been implemented throughout the province and country, and we are confident this policy will be supported as a positive health and safety measure. As always, we continue to encourage all staff and patrons to monitor their own wellness and not to enter the library if ill or having been in contact with a positive case of COVID-19 within the past 14 days.

Thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Library Board at board@strathmorelibrary.ca.
