Little Free Libraries

We are currently full for Little Free Library stewards.

The Little Free Library Initiative

In 2015, the Strathmore Municipal Library received a grant from the United Way of Calgary and Area to build, purchase, and post Little Free Libraries throughout the Town of Strathmore.  This initiative couldn't have happened without a great deal of community support and assistance.

In May 2018, the library received a Wheatland County Community Enhancement Grant to bring the Little Free Library program out into Wheatland County.  The libraries are being painted and will be installed in the Spring of 2019.  The library is currently accepting applications for Wheatland County Little Free Library Stewards.

Thank you!

We would like to thank the following groups and individuals for helping us launch this new initiative.

  • Chris Dumont.  Chris built the Strathmore Municipal Library's very first Little Free Library as a prototype for the 2015 Let's Make a Pitch event.
  • Strathmore High School Shop Class & Wes Clark. This class built 4 of our little free libraries!
  • Strathmore High School Art Class & Brandy Roberts.  This class decorated 6 of our little free libraries!
  • Hope Bridges Society Go Green Upcycling Program.  This program upcycled and decorated our little free library prototype built in 2015.
  • Wheatland Society of Arts.  This group graciously become our first launch site and hosted our Little Free Library launch on June 17, 2017 and is painting several of the libraries that will be installed throughout Wheatland County.
  • Brant Henderson of Henderson Renovations.  Brant has built several of the little free libraries that will be installed throughout Wheatland County.
  • Little Free Libraries have been installed throughout the Town of Strathmore and Wheatland County.
Becoming a Little Free Library Steward

Each Little Free Library has a Steward who cares and watches over it.  The Strathmore Municipal Library is currently looking for stewards who would be interested in caring for a library on either their private property or a public space.

All stewards will be required to sign a Stewardship Agreement for Little Free Library (below).  Only those who become stewards will be required to sign this document.  If you are interested in becoming a Little Free Library Steward, please fill out the Little Free Library Application (below).
